With limited free time, I can’t say that I’ve personally seen many of the shows that garnered nominations in last week’s Emmy Awards. For some titles, including The Americans, having so many episodes to consume in order to catch up, that I’m not even sure I’ll ever get around to them.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel appeared to have swept the Emmys with a number of wins, including Best Comedy, Best Lead Actress (Rachel Brosnahan) and Supporting Actress (Alex Borstein), amongst others. I think I may give it a chance and add it to my ever growing to-see list (Season 2 is expected later this year).
But of those that I have seen, I don’t hesitate recommending these for your bingeing pleasure:
Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Bill Hader
Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Henry Winkler
Lead Actress in a Drama Series – Claire Foy
Game of Thrones
Supporting Actor – Peter Dinklage
At this point, you’re either following GOT or you’ve chosen not to. There was a time, I counted myself amongst the few around the water cooler that had no idea what anyone was talking about.
However, I relented in 2015 when I decided to binge everything in the weeks prior to a free screening of the Season 5 finale at a local Cineplex. I’ve been along for the ride ever since.
The eighth and final season is expected next year.
Supporting Actress – Thandie Newton
Congrats to Thandie Newton – she has been stellar in the series with a number of fantastic and memorable scenes.
Newton is also superb in her role on Season 4 of BBC’s In The Line of Duty, an excellent police-drama from across the pond about an anti-corruption unit. I highly recommend this series (and DO start with season 1).
You can also hear her in a recent interview on CBC’s Q when she was in town for the recent Toronto International Film Festival to promote the movie The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.
