Canadian premiere of Bad Banks

Goethe Films is presenting the Canadian premiere of the first season of Bad Banks, a German-Luxemburgish co-production featuring Paula Beer and Barry Atsma.

Beer was just in Toronto recently to accompany the North American premieres of Transit and Never Look Away, at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

“Ambitious Jana is confronted with the unscrupulous machinations of the world of finance. Her work life is determined by egotism, machismo and the pressure to succeed. She soon has to decide how far she is prepared to go for her career.”

The screenings will take place at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox, with 2 episodes on each evening of October 4, 9 and 11. Tickets are $10 at TIFF Bell Lightbox in person or by phone (day-of sales only) or online (as of 1 week prior to screening).

No word yet on which platform will be carrying it in Canada (Hulu has the US rights). Season 2 is in development.

A few other German-language series I’ve enjoyed, that you may want to give a go, include You Are Wanted, Deutchland 83, and Generation War (Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter).
